The new Ridgid 10" Compact Table Saw is here, and its a beast (Model #R45171)

The all new RIDGID 10" compact miter was (R45171)

Ridgid has been on fire lately with new releases such as their new 10" compact table saw, and 10" miter saw. Though we will have a review coming up soon for the miter saw, today we are going to take a closer look at this beast of a table saw that will hold its own against any mid level competitor.

I've owned a lot of table saws in my life. Some good, some great and some were just plain junk. That being said, most all of them all had one thing in common.... They were expensive.

Even if you did spend the cash on one of these saws, it was unheard of to get a stand included in the same unless it was some black Friday bargain. Not only did Ridgid make one hell of a new weekend warrior saw, they included a stand, blade and heavy duty 15 amp  (5,000 rmp) motor for an extremely affordable price.

Now, before we start getting into all the cool features of this saw, and what it will cost to own it, I want to make sure that you understand that Ridgid also released an almost identical saw to this, but without some of the bells and whistles.

For Black Friday 2017, Ridgid began selling a very similar model to the R45171. It is still for sale on the Home Depot site for $299.00, but it is missing one very significant spec, it's not a soft start.

The Ridgid that we are reviewing today does offer soft start technology like this model has. The other model has been in the market for around a month now, but the new soft start saw will be released sometime in the next month or so. To some this may not be a big deal, but if you was a more controlled and quiet start up, wait a few more weeks for this to be made available.

Now that you know that there is two different models of this saw, let's take a look at the R45171.

When I first read "compact" on the product description, I figured it would be small and weak, but I was way off. This table saw is basically a full size saw that will rip pieces of 4x8 like a champ. The table, which is made if cast aluminum opens up to ( 7" L and 24" R ). Not only does it allow you to adjust to many different sizes, it's extremely easy to do as it slides very easy on it's tracks.

Now, if there is one thing that I love on new tools, its convenience. Ridgid has implemented an onboard storage area for not only the push stick, but also the miter gauge, blade wrenches and even different saw blades that you may want to change throughout the job. Not to mention, they also included a easy to reach cord wrap area that will ensure you don't damage you plug by dragging it on the ground. All of these attachments are at arms length, and super easy to attach or remove when needed.

Safety

as for the safety related devises on this saw, they are very easy to install, they work well, and they don't get in the way. The anti-kickback is spring loaded and work flawlessly. If a board wants to fly back and smack you, the large teeth on this will stop it dead in it's tracks. It's also really easy to install/remove from the riving blade when needed.

The guard itself is also very easy to attach, and will keep you fingers safe while making cuts on the thickest of boards. I really think that Ridgid had convenience in mind when designing the safe equipment on this saw. This is a rare thing as safety and continence don't always go hand in hand.

Build Quality

Most heavy duty table saws are built with roles steel and stamped metal, but this saw is a bit different. The table itself is cast aluminum, which is very tough, but just about everything else (other than the rolled steel frame) is plastic. Now don't get all nervous, because the plastic that they used is pretty thick.

Now unless you plan on running this over with a truck, or dropping it from a three story building, you should have no issue with this holding up on the job site. The one plus with this having plastic sides instead of metal, is that it makes it much easier to move due to it weighing much less. That being said, it still feels solid.

The Stand

The stand is actually mad very well. You would think that a saw that runs between $299.00 to $350.00 would give you a flimsy piece of junk, but that not the case. It's very solid and will have no problem supporting not only the saw, but whatever you are cutting on it. Not to mention, that saw sets perfectly on it, and is easy to attach.

Power

I have to say that I was impressed with how much power this saw has. The 5,000 rpm motor ripped though everything I could throw at it with ease. The cuts are clean, and had no issues with it bogging down. Even laminated plywood cut absolutely beautiful on this saw.

With the soft start feature, and the smooth cutting this saw offers, I have to say that I actually like it more than my other $600.00 saw that I usually use. The cuts are clean, and easy to make, and even the dust collection system works better on this than my others. I really think that Ridgid hit a home run with this new 10" compact table saw, and think you will love it just as much as I do.
