Ridgid 18-Volt Cordless Lithium-Ion Brushless Reciprocating Saw Kit with (2) 4.0Ah Batteries and Charger Model# R864304SB (Note: Only the saw in this kit is Octane, not the batteries) |
Ridgid Power Tools have been advancing their line of tools
and a very fast pace this past year, but they are looking to add something that
will change the way you look at cordless tools. The new release of the
brushless (OCTANE) reciprocating saw is the first of many tools to be released
by TTI/Ridgid during the 2018 year. The all new GEN5X () saw is
replacing their discontinued model (R8642N).
Ridgid has been hush, hush about their new Octane battery
and tools, but we had a chance to get our hands on the new reciprocating saw.
You can run this saw on the current batteries that you have now, but the big
news is that Ridgid will soon be releasing their new 6.0Ah and 9.0Ah Octane
batteries that will change the way we look at cordless tools.
Not only are these batteries built to power your tool for
hours and hours, but the new Octane batteries will last much longer than just
about every other 6.0/9.0 on the market today. These batteries will work with
any Ridgid tool you currently have, but the magic really happens when you use
it with Octane branded tool line.
What’s really cool about these smart batteries is that they
will deliver just the right amount of powered needed when using your Octane
tool. Say you are drilling a few pilot holes into a 2x4. With a regular 6.0Ah
battery, you have full power coming from the battery to power that drill, which
in return drains the battery faster. It’s almost like driving a truck in 4
wheel drive all day long. You don’t need all that extra traction/power, but you
just keep sucking down you gas faster and faster. You
battery that you are
using in your power tool works the same way, but what if you could only use the
power that was needed in the first place? That would save a lot of wasted
energy which in return would keep you battery powered much longer. Ridgid is clamming
these batteries will last up to 444% longer than traditional Hyper Lithium Ion
batteries on the market today, so that alone is huge!
Many battery powered lawnmowers already have this type of
technology which helps reserve battery power when cutting taller or shorter
grass, but instead of the machine deciding how much power was needed to
complete a task, the new Ridgid Octane battery will do it for you. Another
awesome feature about these batteries is that they are Bluetooth enabled. Apparently,
these new batteries will be able to communicate with a Ridgid smart phone app,
and give you status updates about the tool……WHATTTTT!
We are hoping to have the new 6.0Ah battery within the next
few days for testing, and will be using it for the first time in the new Ridgid
GEN5X Octane Reciprocating saw. With that being said, Ridgid is really stepping
up their game with not only their tools, but the batteries that run them as well.
We are very excited to see what the future holds for the new Ridgid Octane Tools!
