Model # GLL 30 S
Today we are taking a look at the Bosch
30ft. leveling cross line laser level (Model
# GLL 30 S). There have been some mixed reviews on the web in relation to this
leveler, so we took a look at some it and wanted to share our view on it.
This Bosch laser level is a Cross-line
laser that was designed for an array of level and alignment uses. They included
a pendulum system on this model that will help self-level the unit, and will
also indicate when it’s out-of-level by blinking every three seconds.
The Bosch GLL 30 S Self-Leveling Cross-Line Laser projects two
lines, (vertical/horizontal) making a cross-line projection. Once the lines are
projected onto the work surface, The Smart Pendulum System self-levels and
indicates out-of-level condition to help ensure an accurate layout and it locks
the lines at any angle. The pendulum system locks when switched off, to assure
secure tool transport.
This system work perfectly if the level is, Well level, but once
you go out of the pendulums corrective boundaries, the lazes start to blink. This
means that the self-leveling only works with one direction, vertical. This tends to get a bit annoying when trying
to work on, let’s say backsplash that’s not vertical.
Now that being said, when you do set this up vertical to the
work surface, the self-leveling action does work perfectly. The horizontal and
vertical line will match up perfectly, and there is no blinking
at all. This
makes leveling pictures, tile, shelving, or finding level for anything else on
the worksite very fast and easy to do.
Bosch also includes an MM
2 Flexible Mounting Device that provides micro fine height adjustment and
allows the laser to be clamped on virtually any surface from 1/2 in. to 2-1/4
in. thick, for level lines at any height. This kit includes a belt pouch for
easy carry-along accessibility.
As for the laser’s brightness it works perfectly indoors or
shaded areas, but if you are planning on using this outside on a bright and
sunny day, the lines are going to be a bit hard to see. The lines also project onto corners and other
items that may be hanging on the wall very well, and we had no issue with the
line breaking.
As for build, it does have a hard case that will stand up to
abuse on the site. It also has a nice grip to it so it won’t fall out of the
hands while setting it up, and also comes with a nice storage bag to keep it
safe when not in use. Not to mention, it only takes two (2) double AA batteries
to power this, so that’s a huge plus.
Other features:
With top-notch accuracy and 1-switch operation, the user's
leveling and alignment tasks are done quickly and correctly. The laser lines
are visible up to 30 ft.

All in all, I really am happy with
this unit. I wish that it would self-level for horizontal use, and would also
like to be able to turn the laser blinking off when not level/plumb. I also
with it was a bit brighter during outside use, but other than those few things,
very happy with the performance of this leveler.
