Husky 1500 LED Portable Work light vs. Masterplug Slimline 1800 LED Portable Work Light |
There seems to be a big surge in shop lighting this past year as more companies are moving from the incandescent bulb to LED. We took a look two different LED shop lights that give you the best bang for your buck, but which will be crowned champion of 2017?
The two shop lights that made it to the top of our list was the
Husky (1500-Lumen LED Portable Work light) and (MasterPlug Slimline1800-Lumen LED Work Light). A few things we
looked at were price, build, illumination and ease of use.
In This Corner, The Husky 1,500 LED Light

Husky 1500 LED Portable Work light |
The Husky 1,500-lumen light
is a light weight portable light that has a metal casing to withstand much
abuse in the shop. The light only weighs in at 2.62lbs, but feels heavy duty.
At only 23 watts, this single
LED bulb is extremely powerful, but stays cool to the touch under the tempered
glass. Husky also claims that the bulb will never need replacing. It also has a
very large illuminating coverage area, so one of these lights will go a long
way.
This light is weather
resistant and has an on and off button that is protected by a rubber seal which
allows you to work outside in the elements without having to worry about damage
to the light. It’s also conveniently located on the top of the casing in the
back. It also has a handle built into the casing, but is a bit awkward to use.
The Attachment bracket allows
you to attach this to the Husky light stand (sold separately) easily, or gives
you the option to use the light by itself using the built in feet. As for looks, the Husky LED
light is rather kind of bland, but who cares if it works well.
And In This Corner, Weighing In at 3lbs, Masteplug 1800 LED Work Light
The Masterplug Slimline was the other top
contender when looking at work lights. It also comes with an all metal case
with tempered glass, but that really about all it has in common with the Husky.

Masterplug 1800 Portable Work Light |
Instead of only having one large, single LED
light, the Slimline has 45 smaller lights. This also has a very large pattern,
and will light up any area that is needed with a single light.
The handle easy grip handle is attached to this light instead of built in. It’s larger and easier to grip, but also has padding for comfort. They also included a weather resistant rubber seal over the on/off button, but it’s located at the bottom of the light instead of the top. It’s also a push button instead of a switch like on the Husky.

As for power consumption, the light is also 120 volt, but 30 watts instead of the 23 on the Husky. It also comes with a 6’ three prong cord instead of the 5’.
The light with adjust up and down at a 95% degree to help shine light on some awkward places, does not offer the rotating option like Husky. The bracket is also not able to attach to a stand (even a Masterplug Stand) as there is no clip or attachment screw that it comes with. This was a bit strange to us as you would think that Masterplug would want it’s consumers to integrate their tools with others.

So who wins?
Both the Husky 1500 and Masterplug 1800 are both great lights, there can only be one winner for the best low cost shop light of 2017. At $39.00, the Slimline has some great features that would make anyone happy, but the Husky at only $29.00 takes the belt.
The 1500 Lumen was just as bright as the 1800 lumen. We also liked that it could turn 365, not just tilt up and down. We were also very disappointed that there were no mounting capabilities on the Masterplug light for a stand. Because of those reason, we give the Husky to win for best affordable work light for 2017.
That being said, both are fantastic lights for the money, and we highly recommend both These can be purchased from the Home Depot tab located at the top right of this page.
