All new Ryobi One+ cutting shears Model # P591 |
Last month, Ryobi
introduced their all new ONE+ 18-Volt 18-Guage offset shear tool. The new
shears featured an off-set head, and is designed for cutting various materials
such as chicken wire, steel and roofing shingles. Here is what we thought after
using them.
The first test we rand
was making multiple cuts in 25 gauge metal framing studs. When we first tried
to cut through the stud, we noticed that the blades were to close together, and
found that there was a supplied wrench to make easy adjustments up near the
head. Turn clockwise and it tightens up the shears, go counter clockwise, and
it spreads them more apart. Once we got adjustment right, we tried again. We
had absolutely no issue cutting through the metal studs, and each cut was
smooth and easy to make.
The next test we did
was cutting through chicken wire. I know this does not seem lik much of a challenge,
but for anyone who has had to cut through a lot of this stuff, you know it can
be time consuming. This is where the shears actually shined. The cuts were
extremely easy to make, and the control that the trigger offers really makes
the cutting process easy. Instead of constantly pulling on the trigger, short
burst allow you to make these cuts fast and controlled.
We then tried the
roofing shingles just to see if they would hold up to the toughness of them. Anyone
who cuts through these daily knows that they are not the easiest to cut
through. They also dull out blades super quick as they are very abrasive, so I
was curious to see how well they would hold up. Because of
the thickness of the
shears, and the quick cutting action, they basically did better than anything I
have used before. The blades stayed sharp, and had no signs of wear, even after
cutting over a square of shingles.
Even if you notice
wear and tear over time, the shears are extremely easy to change out for a new
set, which in return will allow you to cut until your heart is content.
Ryobi also added a
rotating head design that makes it easy to adjust the angle of the shear to help
allow you to work ergonomically correct. At no time did I have issues with
twisting my wrist while cutting. We really liked this feature.
Now, when used with a
4AH battery, Ryobi claims that it will cut through over 1000 ft. of sheet metal
on a single charge. That being said, we used the same 4.0 battery during all of
these test, and it still had power to spare after we were done.
As for build, it’s
solid. It’s not too heavy, but built very well. The tool has a nice overmold on
it that helps with grip, and will definitely hold up to some abuse. Some other
features include:
1. Rotating head for versatile cutting
2. Offset shear design for use on multiple
materials
3. Replaceable blades for continued performance
4. Over 1000 ft. of sheet metal cut on a single
battery charge using a P108 battery
5. Variable-speed trigger for maximum control
6. GRIPZONE overmold for optimum grip and user
comfort
7. Includes belt clip and hex key
8. Part of the Ryobi ONE+ family of over
100-products
The only downside to this
tool is that it is not brushless, but other than that, it’s definitely a very
handy tool to have in you arsenal. I personally think that this would be a
great tool for roofers to have on the job, and recommend you give it a try.
