Dewalt DCS334B |
What a pleasure it was
to be able to test one of Dewalt’s crowning achievements in the 2018 year. Our
subscribers were clammering about this saw for some time now, and we are
excited to tell you, that the wait was worth it. See more below…
The DEWALT DCS334B
20-Volt MAX XR (R) Cordless Jig Saw is one of our favorite tools of 2018. With
a brushless motor that produces up to 3,200 SPM, it’s definitely a force to be reckoned
with.
The saw offers a variable
speed trigger and dial, which really help in controlling you cuts, especially
when you need to be precise as possible. And the 4-position orbital action switch lets allows
you rip through any piece of wood with blistering speed.
Dewalt says that it
has one LED light, but it actually has two. One on each side of the blade
that
will
Illuminate your
immediate work area, and help you follow cut lines.
One of my favorite
parts of this, or any other jig saw that we have used is the all-metal,
lever-action keyless blade clamp. All you need to do is pull out on the clamp
for quick and easy blade change. This is by far the best blade release I have
ever used! Speaking of blades, this saw takes t-shank jig saw blades, but you’ll
have to buy them separately as they don’t come with the saw.
Another nice feature on
this jig saw is the keyless shoe bevel. It was very easy to adjust the positive
stops/detents at 0, 15, 30 and 45. Dewalt also added a removable shoe cover that
in return helps protect materials from scratches. It’s easy to put on and take
off, and is made of a heavy plastic, so it will definitely last a long time. They also put an integrated dust blower on
this unit, and it does an excellent job removing dust and debris from your line
of sight while you cut.
Other Specs
- Brushless motor delivers efficient performance for
longer runtime (vs. DCS331 Jig Saw)
- Bright LED light helps to illuminate dimly lit work
surfaces
- All-metal, lever-action keyless blade change allows for
quick and easy t-shank blade changes
- 4-position orbital action provides control of cut
quality and speed
- No-mar shoe cover to help protect work surface from
scratches
- Compact size for easy grip and maximum control
- Variable speed trigger and dial provide precise speed
control
- Integrated dust blower helps clear line of sight while
cutting
- All-metal, keyless shoe bevel with detents at 0, 15,
30, and a positive stop at 45 for easy adjustment
- Accepts t-shank jig saw blades for optimal holding
power and professional results
As for cutting, it was
smooth and powerful. The vibration was not bad at all since they added a nice rubber
over-mold around the handle. Speaking of handle, the D shaped handle is very comfortable,
and really feels great in the hand. I also really liked how they placed the
speed control knob right where the thumb will be while cutting.
Negatives
I only have two gripes in relation to this saw. The first
deals with no vacuum port/connection. It would have been nice to hook a vac up
to this and pull that dust up and away instead of just blowing it around
everywhere.
The other issue I had was I would have liked to have seen an
auto feature on this. I know a lot of people don’t like those for safety
concerns, but I do like that option.
Other than those to issues, the saw is near perfect. The visible
speed trigger and knob really allow you to make some precise cuts, and give the
user complete control of the saw. The built is excellent, and the comfort of
this saw is great. It’s also smaller than many of the comparable saws on the
market today, so it’s definitely worth checking out.
