DEWALT tools just released their new carbon fiber composite tacker, and when it comes to staple guns, it really is a game changer.

Advantages of owning this gun over the others:

One of the biggest advantages this new composite stapler/brad nailer has over the others on the market (including Dealer's other models) is the weight. DEWALT claims that their new composite tacker weighs 50% less than any other on the market, and they are not lying.

The outer casing is made of a light weight carbon fiber material than cover about 90% of the tacker. Some of the tack such and the handle is reinforced with plastic, and so is the loading release area.

The first thing that came to mind when I first put this in my hand was "this is way to light to ever hold up on a work site"..... wow was I wrong.

I wanted to see just how "heavy duty" this thing was, so I really put a bearing on it. I dropped it off ladders, bounced it off concrete floors, threw it at walls, ran it over with a tractor, threw it about 20 yards, and left it outside in -5 degree temperatures all night. After all of that abuse, the only damage I could find was a tiny bit of paint missing from the DEWALT logo..... CRAZY TOUGH!

Another thing that I was happy about is that the tacker was not to cold to handle. Even after it was outside in those conditions, the composite material did not hold the cold like metal guns do.

Ease of use:

The tacker is somewhat comfortable in the hand, but not the best I have used. The span with is a bit wide, so unless you have large hands, it's a noticeable reach. Once you do get you hands around it, the trigger action is actually easy to do.

What size staples and brad nails does this take?

This tacker not only takes staple from 1/4"- 9 1/16", but it will also accept brad nails from 1/2" - 5/8". Both the staples and the brad nails were sank into 4x4 treated wood and 2x4 pine perfectly flush. That being said, it did struggle a bit with laminated plywood.

Features:

Some of the coolest parts of a tool are the small ones that make life just a bit more easy. Some of those for this tacker include a large belt clip that can be reversed to either side of for leftys or rightys. It also has a small window that shows the staples/nails so you can load up again before completely running out.

All in all, the new DEWALT carbon fiber composite tacker is a beast unlike I have seen before. It is extremely tough, and will hold up to hard abuse on any work site. The span width is a bit wide, but everything else was designed near perfectly. The tacker will run you about $10 more than other DEWALT models on the market, but the weight reduction alone makes the price well worth purchase.

Extra Pros:

  • 50% less weight
  • 25% easier squeeze for reduced muscle fatigue
  • 2-in-1 manual tacker accepts heavy-duty staples and 18-Gauge brads
  • Carbon fiber composite housing
  • Low fastener indicator for convenience
  • Bottom load design for quick and easy loading
  • Reversible belt hook for left or right-handed access
